This project needs you...
I hope this finds you having a great day!
For the last 2 years, I've had a goal to complete my project entitled, "Accidental Masterpiece". Despite my best efforts, unfortunetely life, responsibilites, unforeseen occurrences and adulting (as it does us all) is seeing that the process is taking way longer than anticipated. And without the finacial support of people in the community, I'm not sure how or when this vision will see the light of day.
The overall theme of "Accidental Masterpiece" is to contribute in the efforts and fight of breaking down racial barriers. It is a personal sonic journal of my feelings and view points of not quite fitting in, all the while balancing fatherhood, art, race, politics and community involvement. This project is about trying to be able to survive in a world where the dollar is “King”, but not always being afforded all the opportunities to be successful financially. It’s the expression of feelings when entering a race that you’re already 3 laps behind in. The project is also about finding self-identity and how sometimes feeling like a chameleon keeps a person in a fog on who they are exactly. All this told from the perspective of a half black, half white kid growing up in lower class/poverty line of Durham, NC.
The Goal: I would like to create a dialog centered around the theme of "Accidental Masterpiece" through a series of panel discussions and workshops, and utilizing my platform of Beats n Bars Festival which has a built in demographic of teens to 30 somethings with mixed races and economic backgrounds. In doing so, possibly discovering and narrowing down a new type of community of people with mixed racial families and background, who will be able to tell their story on how they approach the conversation of race. I’m hoping to elevate my community as a place to be seen artistically and diverse on a larger scale. Also, to speak to individuals that may have had similar feelings of misplacement growing up and to let them know that they're not alone.
To cover recording costs, production, expenses, and travel, the amount remaining is $2,500. If you would like to see this project come to life, contribute what you can or even help by telling a friend. Thank you for all your support!
